Karen Cheah returns unopposed as Bar chief

Karen Cheah had previously offered to serve for another term.

PETALING JAYA: Karen Cheah has been returned unopposed as president of the Bar Council for a second consecutive term.

Cheah, who was elected to the post last year, had offered to serve for another term.

Three others were returned unopposed: vice-president Ezri Abdul Wahab, treasurer Murshidah Mustafa and secretary B Anand Raj.

Council member Chan Weng Keng confirmed that the four were returned unopposed.

The previous three Bar Council chairmen had served for only one year each, either opting not to seek a second term or losing their bid to stay in office.

Cheah would not be eligible for another term as the Legal Profession Act does not allow anyone from holding office as Bar Council president for more than two consecutive years.
