SEGAMAT: Two teenagers had drowned after swimming in Sungai Pulau Jering at Kampung Bukit Tunggal here.
Segamat OCPD Supt Ahmad Zamry Marinsah said the police received a report on the incident involving the 12 and 13-year-old boys at 5.10pm on Friday (April 14).
“One of the boys’ father, who was at the scene, noticed that they were in trouble. He then asked for help from the public.
“The villagers were able to fish the boys out of the water but they were both unconscious.
“They were then rushed to a nearby private clinic where they were later declared dead,” he said in a statement here.
He said that a post-mortem is being conducted by the Forensic Department of Segamat Hospital to identify the cause of death.
“We would also like to remind parents and guardians to always monitor their children’s whereabouts to avoid any unwanted incidents,” he said.
