Singapore ICA warns of GST email scam

The ICA does not issue tax invoices requesting for GST payment, the agency said. “We would like to advise members of the public to exercise caution so that you do not unwittingly fall prey to such a scam,” it added.

Members of the public who received such an email scam may also wish to make a police report, the ICA said.

“ICA takes a serious view of such email scams as it undermines public trust in us,” the agency added.

The agency advised members of the public to visit the Singapore Customs’ website (www.customs.gov.sg) if they wish to find information relating to dutiable goods.

According to an ICA statement on Friday (April 1), a scammer has been posing as an ICA Duty Officer named “Chen Ping” with the email addressping.chen@ica.sg. The scammer, the ICA said, had been emailing members of the public to make Goods and Services Tax (GST) payments for postal articles purportedly detained by authorities.
